Sub-inspector killed Jalandhar road mishap

Jalandhar: Sub-inspector Jagdeep Kaur, 27, who was working with the Jalandhar police commissionerate, was killed after her scooter was hit by a speeding SUV here on Saturday.

The victim hailed from Fazalpur village in Tarn Taran district, and was former hockey player Jugraj Singh’s and Commonwealth Games medallist Rajwinder Kaur’s cousin.

Cops said Jagdeep, who was on her way to office, was crossing a junction when the SUV, registered in Jammu and Kashmir, jumped the light and hit her scooter. The accused driver left the car and fled.

Jagdeep, who was not wearing a helmet, was rushed to the civil hospital’s trauma ward with head injuries. She was referred to a private hospital, where she breathed her last. The body was later shifted to the civil hospital for autopsy.

Jagdeep, who was one of the first six woman sub-inspectors recruited in the city police two years back, was posted in the Model Town police station six months ago. A case under Section 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC has been registered against the accused driver, Benu Kumar of Samba in J&K, who was identified on the basis of documents seized.
