Rs 130 crores standing against Hotel Park Plaza of three banks
Chandigarh: Officials of three banks took possession of Park Plaza hotel on Friday morning when bank officials from Punjab National Bank, United Bank of India and State Bank of India reached there to take physical possession of the hotel owing to its failure to pay a loan amount of Rs 130 crore.
The hotel management had deployed bouncers to thwart the bank officials. After a three-hour-long ordeal, the hotel was sealed at 1.45 pm.
Only few days back the Deputy Commissioner had ordered to take the possession of the hotel on an application by these banks
Around 200 guests were asked to leave by the police. Left with no other option, guests left their breakfast on the table. It is reported that About 50-55 rooms of the hotel were booked. All the guests were told to vacant their rooms immediately.
Actor Mangal Dhillon, who was also present at the hotel, was also asked to leave. Dhillon along with 10 other people had booked the hotel for seven days.
Hotel staff, around 250 in number, said they had been rendered jobless.
Hotel CMD HS Arora, an NRI, condemned the bank officials and Chandigarh Administration for their biased approach to get the hotel sealed after taking over its possession. Arora told media persons that he would approach Prime Minister Narendra Modi against the high handedness of the authorities.
