Chandigarh: In June 2008, we saw Amandeep Kaur creating ripples for her unconventional act of getting into a profession that had been male-centered for years. A television presenter by the day, she - then a 22-year-old - was moonlighting as a bouncer at Score, a discotheque in Chandigarh.

Shockingly, last we read about her is a news piece on a website alleging that after gaining national and international recognition as the country's first woman bouncer, Amandeep found herself out in the cold. She was sacked out from the nightclub where she gained her fame. Some sources assert that she was penalized by her employer for going off to another discotheque to help out a group of her girlfriends who were being teased by some boys.

As per the online reports, Amandeep hails from a village in Punjab's Barnala district, 250 kms from Chandigarh. Amandeep, a student of Law, used to work part-time as a bouncer, four nights a week from 8 pm to 2 am. Her news of being a female bouncer, a rarity in India, was covered by renowned International news agencies like BBC.

"Since childhood, I have wanted to do challenging jobs that men do. Having been treated like a son at home, I never feared boys and always challenged them, even while in school and college," she said in Chandigarh.

Following her footsteps at the same nightclub was Manpreet Johal, then a 20-year-old, from the district of Gurdaspur in Punjab. Since then, the Amandeep has been appearing in the news for her unique profession and having opened up a whole new career option for women. For the following years, there were even some special coverage featuring the female bouncers on occasions like International Women's Day. In one of the media interactions, Amandeep had then announced her dream to create a team of female bouncers after joining the nightclub.

However, others say that the real reason to fire her was for being envy of her popularity, as she had started getting job offers from around the world. Reportedly, the brawny girl had also been trying to establish her career in the electronic media, as a news anchor.

Now, out of the blue, the online community has found renewed interest in this piece of information and as of 22nd July, her news started trending.

While her news is going viral on the internet, very few people know that Amandeep was forced to quit her job on the disciplinary grounds. We tried to contact her previous employers and news agencies which had then covered her news but in vain. When we tried to get in touch with these sources, we also came to know that there are a lot of other people too who are trying to get in touch with them to ascertain, where Amandeep is?
