Rajnath Singh launches nation-wide Student Police Cadet programme

Gurugram, July 21, 2018: Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh today launched the nation-wide Student Police Cadet (SPC) programme from here with the objective to inculcate moral values and ethics in students  so that they could contribute their might in making new India in the time to come.

Rajnath Singh was addressing the students at the national roll out of SPC programme  here today.

The SPC programme will be first implemented in government schools in both urban and rural areas in the country. A sum of Rs 67 crore had been released to the States for implementation of the programme. An amount of 50,000 would be given to each school to be spent on educational aids, training and contingency. It would be carried out on pilot basis in all states and Union Territories.

Congratulating the Haryana Government especially the Chief Minister, Manohar Lal for grand hosting of national roll out of the SPC, the Union Home Minister said that the programme would help in getting assistance from citizens for ensuring peace and public safety in the society. Moreover, the feeling of social commitment would be generated among youths which would help them in keeping themselves away from crime and other social evils like drug abuse, alcohol, intolerance and vandalism, he added.

"The SPC is being launched today at national level, which will help in building a bridge between the police and the larger community through students by imbibing values and ethics in them," he announced.

Haryana CM Manohar Lal described the SPC programme as a ‘milestone’ in building a progressive society and added that priority would be given to SPC Cadets in the Haryana Police recruitment drive in future. The quality of working of police will be further improved with the induction of these cadets in Police Department. 

He said that 6000 posts would soon be filled up in Police Department.

Vote of thanks was presented by Director General of Police Haryana, BS Sandhu. He assured the Union Home Minister that the SPC would be implemented in the entire country magnificently.

Parsad, Joint Secretary, Union Minister of Home Vivek Bhardwaj, Haryana DGP, B.S. Sandhu, ADGP Operations, A.S. Chawla, IG CID Anil Kumar Rao, Mayor Ms Madhu Azad, Media Advisor to Haryana CM Amit Arya, CP Gurugram K.K. Rao, IG Rohtak Range Sandeep Khirwar and DC Gurugram Vinay Pratap Singh were among other prominent persons present.
