Jalandhar man, mother booked in dowry case on complaint of Phagwara girl

PHAGWARA: On a complaint lodged by Phagwara resident Ridhima the Phagwara police have registered case under section 498A/406 IPC against her Jalandhar resident husband Rajeev Chauhan and his mother Urmila Chauhan on the charges of domestic violence ie torturing her physically and mentally to fulfil their demands of Rs 40 Lac.

Station House Officer City Police Phagwara Gurmeet Singh Sidhu told that the Victim in her complaint lodged with City Police Phagwara told the police that She was married to the accused Rajeev on December 1 in the year 2008 and her parents gave sufficient dowry  in the marriage. She alleged that her-in-laws wanted her to conceive early and to deliver only a male. She told that she delivered two sons  on March 26 in 2011, and on April 17 in 2015.The Victim alleged that She was forced to abort on November 29 in 2012 and then on June 29 in 2013 and the abortions were done in two Jalandhar Hospitals after  the  sex determination tests conducted at Dehradun .

The Victim even alleged that She was thrown out from her-in-laws house after 40 days of the delivery of her second son on May 28 in 2015 and she was residing with her parents in Phagwara presently. She told that  she lodged complaint before  SSP Kapurthala  who forwarded the complaint to Women Cell could not be fruitful and ultimately Family Court intervened and recommended to register case against her husband and mother-in-law.
