Jalandhar DCP issues orders to regulate fireworks

In wake of ensuing festival of Diwali, the Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr. Rajinder Singh has issued prohibitory orders to regulate and restrict the storage, sale and purchase of fireworks in Police Commissionerate Jalandhar in the public interest.

Divulging the details, the DCP said that days before, on, and after Diwali, there was likelihood of unrestricted storage, sale, purchase and use of all sort of fireworks, which have the potential to cause serious damage to life, limb and property and for which urgent steps to restrict and regulate the same were essential in public interest. He said that in the past, many incidents of fire and consequent loss of life and properties have taken place in many parts of the country. Therefore while exercising the powers vested under Section 144 Code of Criminal Procedure 1973, the DCP has ordered that no person shall store, exhibit or sell any firecrackers or explosive materials normally used in the festival of Diwali at Attari Bazar, Peer Bodian Bazar, Paprian Bazar, Chowk Kadey Shah, Punj Peer Bazar, Rainak Bazar, Sheikhan Bazar, Imam Nasir Bazar Basti Gujan, Main Bazar Basti Nau, Main Bazar Basti Sheikh & Main Bazar Basti Danishmandan. In rest of city sale of firecrackers would be allowed inside the shops and no display of firecrackers outside the shops shall be allowed.

Likewise, the storage, display and sale purchase of firecrackers would also be allowed inside the shops/temporary structures, but not in tents, as they were easily inflammable at Burlton Park,  for whole sellers/retailers of firecrackers to install temporary shops strictly inside the park to whom permission have already been granted as intimated by the Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar. Each wholesaler and Retailer would keep fire extinguishers, sands and water buckets etc. handy at all times during the festival season.

It has also been ordered that the use of fireworks and firecrackers was not permitted except between 6.00 A.M to 10.00 P.M. Firecrackers shall not be busted or lighted at any time in Silence Zone (i.e near Hospital, Educational Institutions etc.) and within the limits of Suchi Pind and in the area of five hundred yards of IOC, BPCL and HPCL Oil Terminals. It was also ordered that there will be complete ban on imported firecrackers in the shape of toys/electronic goods. This order will remain in force for sixty days from date of issuance of this order.
