Sri Muktsar Sahib, September 8: 2017 - In view of the strict prohibition of burning of paddy straw by the National Green Tribunal (NGT), no combine harvester would be allowed to harvest paddy without installing Super Straw Management System (SMS) this year. Therefore, the Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, has decided to subsidize the farmers for setting up Super Straw Management System in Combine Harvesters. This information was given here by Deputy Commissioner Mr. Sumeet Jarangal, IAS.

Deputy Commissioner said that this year the paddy straw should be disposed of without any kind of fire. Therefore, the installation of Super SMS is mandatory for owners of combine harvesters.  The Super SMS system is an extension to be attached with harvester and it will cut down the straw into small pieces before broadcasting it into field. In this way, the sowing of next crop would be possible without burning of paddy straw, he added. So to provide the financial assistance to farmers it has been decided by the government to provide subsidy up to 50 percent maximum up to Rs. 50,000. Installation of Super SMS system is mandatory for all types of new and old Combine harvesters, he further said.

District Agriculture Officer, Mr. Baljinder Singh said that the farmers, those want to install Super SMS system can submit their applications in prescribed format with District Agriculture Office. The last date for submission of the application is September 30, 2017.
