Adampur set to fly high with domestic flights soon

Jalandhar, July 29- Taking off for starting the domestic flights from Adampur on September 26, to enable the people from region to touch down Delhi merely in 45 minutes, the Punjab government today kicked off work for construction of approach road to Adampur airport, for which Rs 16.70 crore has already been sanctioned.

Starting the work of road, Lok Sabha MP from Jalandhar Chaudhary Santokh Singh and Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr Varinder Kumar Sharma today reiterated the firm commitment of state government to start the flights from this airport on September 26. They said that the state government was spending Rs 16.70 crore on this project out of which Rs 16 crore has been spent on acquiring 40 acres of land and Rs 70 lakh would be spent for development works of road connectivity , water supply and electricity connection. Giving the further bifurcation they said that that out of Rs 70 lakh sanctioned by the state government Rs 33 lakh would be spent on construction of road, Rs 32 lakh for providing water facility at airport and Rs 5 lakh for electricity.

Describing today as a red letter day in the history of region the MP and Mr Sharma said that it would transform the destiny of region by giving much needed impetus to its growth. They said that this airport when operational would provide air connectivity to the region with the rest of the globe . They further said that besides saving time, money and energy of the people especially the NRIs from the region, this airport would also give boost to the economic development of the region in general and Jalandhar city in particular. 

They said that besides facilitating NRIs to stay connected with their roots, this airport would also boost medical tourism and industrial development in media capital of the state. They also said that a project worth Rs 55 crore for widening and strengthening, construction of Railway over Bridge and by-pass on Adampur to Mehtiana Road thereby providing easy connectivity to people to airport is also under consideration. They also inspected the site where Airport Authority of India (AAI) has already started the work for construction of parking, waiting lounge and other facilities for the passengers at a cost of Rs 8 crore. They said that the state government has already transferred 37 acres of land to the Airport Authority of India for this purpose.

Prominent amongst other present on the occasion included former Punjab Minister Mr. Mohinder Singh Kay Pee, former MLA Mr. Kanwaljeet Singh Lally, Sub Divisional Magistrate Mr. Rajiv Verma, and Joint General Manager (Civil) AAI Mr. MS Duhan and Executive Engineer (PWD) Mr. Sarabraj.
