Delhi Court sends Hurriyat leaders to 10-day NIA custody

Srinagar, Jul 25 (KNS): A court in New Delhi on Tuesday remanded seven Hurriyat leaders in NIA custody for 10 days after they were arrested from Srinagar for receiving hawala money and fuelling unrest in the valley.
During in-camera proceedings, Judge Poonam Bamba allowed the NIA to quiz Nayeem Khan, Altaf Ahmad Shah alias Altaf Fantoosh, Aftab Hilali Shah alias Shahid-ul-Islam, Ayaz Akbar Khandey, Peer Saifullah, Raja Mehrajuddin Kalwal and Farooq Ahmad Dar alias Bitta Karate till August 4.
They have been booked on charges of criminal conspiracy and waging war against India.
Altaf Ahmad Shah is the son-in-law of Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani while Islam is a close aide of Hurriyat (M) chief Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. Ayaz Akbar is the spokesperson for the Geelani-led Hurriyat.
Hurriyat leadership had called for shutdown against the NIA arrests. (KNS)
