Chandigarh (PKB), July 18: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today said the recent killing of two youth besides injuries to several others at Guruharsahai yesterday occurred due to the failure of the State Police to take timely decisive action.

In a statement here, former minister Sikandar Singh Maluka said two youth lost their lives over a clash which occurred one day prior to the murderous assault on them. “Though the police came to the scene after the armed clash it did not take any action due to political pressure against the aggressors. This resulted in the subsequent attack on Lakhwinder and Beant of Palle Chak village which resulted in their death and severe injuries to two more persons”.

Mr Maluka said one day prior to the murders, the group led by one Nachhattar Singh and Nishan Singh injured three women who had to be taken to hospital. He said if the police had taken action against the accused, the subsequent murderous assault and killings could have been averted.

Stating that the State had descended into jungle raj due to the Congress government’s failure to check political interference in police functioning, the former minister said things could be corrected if this was stopped immediately. He said there had been umpteen cases of brazen political interference in police functioning during the last four months of Congress rule. “It seems the Congress government has given a go ahead to its workers to indulge in vendetta politics. This has encouraged anti-social elements also who resorting to dacoities and revenge killings”, he added.
