Minor girl, army jawan killed as Pakistan violates ceasefire at LoC

Jammu (PKB), July 17: Soldier and a seven-year-old girl were killed in firing by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

The army said soldier Mudasir Ahmad was hit when mortar shells landed on his bunker at around 7:30 am. The 37 year old officer, who is a father of two, was a brave and sincere soldier and loved his job to the core.

Two civilians were also injured in the firing at Poonch where the child was killed. The girl, identified as Saida of Balakote in Poonch district, died when she was hit by a Pakistani shell.

 “Mudasir Ahmed is survived by his wife Shaheena Mudasir and two children. He was a brave and sincere soldier who loved his job from the core of his heart. The nation will always remain indebited to him for his supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty” said Defence Spokesman, Lt Col Manish Mehta.

On Saturday Lance Naik Mohd Naseer r/o Ajout in Poonch district had attained martyrdom at a forward post when he was hit with a Sniper Rifle shot fired from across the border and later heavy exchange of mortar shelling had taken place between both the armies.

At about 7 am 801 Mujahid Unit of Pakistan army resorted to heavy mortar shelling on forward Indian posts and civil areas in Tarkundi, Balakot and Mendhar sectors.

Naik Mudasir Ahmed of 15 Jak Li and   r/o Duchoo in Pulwama district of Kashmir received previous injuries when a mortar shell landed on the bunker he was manning. He was immediately rescued to the nearest army medical centre where he succumbs to injuries.

Another soldier namely Firdosh Ahmed also received splinter injuries and was also treated at the centre.

 “Mudasir Ahmed is survived by his wife Shaheena Mudasir and two children. He was a brave and sincere soldier who loved his job from the core of his heart. The nation will always remain indebited to him for his supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty” said Defence Spokesman, Lt Col Manish Mehta.

 “Several mortar shells also fell in the villages close to Line of Control in Rajouri and Poonch districts in which five years old girl namely Saida d/o Mohd Kafeel r/o Behrooti Mohalla Dadeyana died due to splinter injuries” said a source.

He added another mortar shell landed in village Panjgrain in Rajouri district and a couple namely Mohd Shrief and his wife Shah Begam were injured.

Shah Begam was rushed to district hospital at Rajouri where she was operated and is out of danger while Mohd Shrief was provided first aid.

“Keeping in view the high intensity of the mortar shelling, people have been advised to remain inside their homes and more than 19 schools have been closed for the safety of the staff and students. In case of any possible emergency evacuation 4 places have been identified for relief camps” said DC.

He added Tehsildar ,Manjakot & AC Defence have been made Nodal Officers  for emergency response and providing required relief including ration, accommodation etc.

Dr Shahid Iqbal has also ordered closure of 19 schools till further order which includes primary schools at Sharmabasti, Korapani, Nangal, Tadyalla, Chakwa, Trutta, Dharra, Mahal Rajdhani, Kalvatra Mohall, Lal Beig, Rependi, Kotedhar, Chakli ; middle schools at Naika, Kundinakkar, Paryali, Lambibari, and high schools at Khorinar and Dhar.

 “More than 120 students who were held up in government school at Panjgrain were evacuated to safer places by SDPO Manjakot, Imtiaz Ahmed in collaboration with civilians” said a source.

District administration has sounded alert in the area and four ambulances were also rushed to Manjakot, Ghambhir, Panjgrain.

Deputy Commissioner has also constituted teams of officials from various departments for the assessment of loss , damage report and for providing required assistance.

Indian army retaliated mortar shelling strongly and affectively and heavy loss was expected in several areas in POK and to Pakistan army’s forward posts.
