Srinagar, July 8 (KNS): Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Friday lauded the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said Centre took care of sensibilities and sentiments of people of this state by ordering the Presidential Order on Goods and Services Tax (GST).

“Today is the victory of democracy. Jammu and Kashmir assembly is the most empowered house. Entire India was waiting for GST resolution of the state to adopt GST. Whatever safeguards and protection of special status we had sought were replicated the Centre. The government of India took care of the sensibilities and sentiments of the state by maintaining status quo on the special status,” Mehbooba said in the Legislative Council today after the Presidential Order was laid and read in the council by Finance minister Dr Haseeb Drabu.

“My alliance partner supported Agenda of Alliance which says to the government will maintain status quo on the special status of the state. GST with safeguards for the state was time of test for BJP, our alliance partner, has kept his promise,” she said.

The CM said that whatever amendments have happened earlier to the constitution of Jammu and Kashmir were done in hushed manner.

“Earlier, the constitutional amendments would be implemented in hush hush manner seeding suspicion. Even the good amendments were doubted,” she said, referring to the National Conference.

“My father would say that Jammu and Kashmir is the empowered assembly but I would doubt it at times. Today entire India was waiting for GST resolution,” she according to KNS correspondent said.

While thanking the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for agreeing to the safeguards, Mehbooba said if anyone can bring J&K out of this morass it is Mr. Modi.

“My alliance partner supported Agenda of Alliance which says to the government will maintain status quo on the special status of the state. GST with safeguards for the state was time of test for BJP, our alliance partner, has kept his promise,” she said.

Mehbooba said her father would say “’if we can protect the powers that have been given in our constitution, there cannot be bigger azaadi than this’”.

“Our country and alliance partner have kept our and state’s dignity. The crown which was snatched from the assembly returned today by respecting our resolution,” she said.

“This day will be written in golden words,” she said.
