Amritsar : kal Takht Jathedar has expressed satisfaction over the clarification given by SGPC president on the issue of latter’s participation in anti-government protests of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). With this the controversy erupted over Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh expressing reservations over SGPC chief Kirpal Singh Badungar participation in a political event.

In his meeting with the Jathedar here on Saturday, Badungar explained he participated in the protests as it also covered Sikh issues like incidents of sacrilege and encroachments of gurdwaras under Amarinder-led Congress government.

After the clarification, the Jathedar said the statement made by him was his “personal opinion” and he was satisfied with Badungar’s “expalanation”. Badungar had participated in ‘dharna’ at Patiala on June 12 as part of the statewide protests organized jointly by SAD-BJP. The Akal Takht Jathedar’ had made a statement next day observing that Badungar, being head of the religious body, should have stayed away from the political protest.
