Chandigarh: The role of some policemen in Fatehabad, including a former SP, has come under the scanner after a Punjab resident alleged in a complaint to Health Minister Anil Vij that a huge bribe has been extorted from him and others by threats to frame them in false cases.

Vij has asked BS Sandhu, DGP, to get the matter probed by an SIT headed by an officer not below the rank of ADGP since the matter is serious as per the video footage provided by the complainant.

“I would like the officials involved in this matter, as alleged in the complaint and also visible in the video, be placed under suspension with immediate effect and the extorted amount recovered from them and refunded to the complainants,” Vij has written to the DGP.

In his complaint, Bhupinder Singh of Sunam tehsil in Sangrur, has levelled allegations of corruption against OP Narwal, who was then SP at Fatehabad, SI Krishan Kumar, ASI Jagmail Singh, head constable Hardeep Singh and Tohana CIA in charge Paramvir Singh .

The complainant has alleged that after the registration of an FIR under the PC and PNDT Act at Tohana on September 18, 2016, against some persons, the police started threatening him and four others from Punjab of framing them in false cases and extorted huge money, including Rs 8 lakh in the name of Narwal after allegedly talking to the then SP’s brother.

Vij told The Tribune that after watching the video footage, he was convinced that policemen had collected over Rs 1 crore from over 40 persons by threatening to implicate them in false cases.
