Schoolgirls end fast after govt upgrades school

May 18, 2017 07:39 AM

Chandigarh : Girl students of Government High School at Gothda Tappa Dahina village in Rewari ended their indefinite fast after the government announced that they will upgrade the school to senior secondary level. Haryana Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma said: “We have upgraded the school. We have also deputed a principal there who will commence the admission procedure from tomorrow.”

The students feared eve-teasing and molestation by youths of other villages and hence, they demanded upgrade of the school up to Class XII, so that no girl from the village has to go to other place for further education.

Earlier in the day, around 10 girls were taken to the hospital as they fell unconscious during their hunger strike.
