Srinagar: The chairperson of radical women’s outfit Dukhtaran-e-Millat (Daughters of Faith) Asiya Andrabi and her close aide Fahmeeda Sofi were booked under Public Safety Act on Monday.

Andrabi is married to Ashiq Hussain Faktoo, who has been awarded life term for his role in the murder of human rights activist lawyer H N Wanchoo 1992. In 2013, Andrabi’s three nephews were arrested in Pakistan for terror links.

The separatist leader, who was arrested on April 26 from her Soura residence on the outskirts of Srinagar city, was believed to be instrumental in organising student protests across the Kashmir colleges.

The DeM’s spokesperson Nahida Nasreen, while confirming slapping of PSA on Andrabi and Fahmeeda, said police were about to shift them to Kotbhalwal jail in Jammu.

“The duo has been taken to police control room where they will undergo a medical check-up and then they will be shifted to Kotbhalwal jail. This is what we were told,” Nasreen said.

It is not for the first time that radical Andrabi has been booked under the PSA. In 2015, She was booked for celebrating Pakistan Day under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. The group had been in news for an aggressive campaign against obscenity, vulgarity and other social evils.

In 1990s when insurgency was at its peak in Kashmir, Andrabi and her associates campaigned against beauty parlours and obscene posters depicting women in bad light.

Andrabi is married to Ashiq Hussain Faktoo, who has been awarded life term for his role in the murder of human rights activist lawyer H N Wanchoo 1992. In 2013, Andrabi’s three nephews were arrested in Pakistan for terror links.
