Srinagar, May 08 (KNS): Terming the prevailing situation in the Kashmir Valley “serious”, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti Monday said that the situation can be resolved and appealed the electronic media not to telecast those debates which disturb peace in the state.

“Since 1947, we have seen ups and downs in the state. For 22 years, famous leader (Sheikh Abdullah) fought for self determination and plebiscite but despite that he was compelled to sign Indira-Sheikh accord. Since 1990, militancy increased and situation deteriorated a lot, and the people could not move out of their homes. Later, the situation improved,” Mehbooba told reports at the Civil Secretariat here, as per KNS correspondent.

“Every issue has a solution. The prevailing situation is serious but it too has a solution,” Mehbooba said.

Appealing the electronic media not to disturb situation in the state, the chief minister said that the electronic media should not show debates.
“I appeal the national electronic media that do not show debates which generate hate in the country against the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Our youth are excelling in all the competitions, be it IAS or any other exam. All the youth do not pelt stones. So, I request you to desist from such discussions which disturbs peace and generate hate and also hits tourism here,” she said.
Calling Jammu and Kashmir the crown of India, Mehbooba said that JK is the soul of this country.

She said that today the youth are angry and disillusioned. “Some are being provoked. I think we all should work together to resolve this situation,” she said.

The civil secretariat resumed in Srinagar after remaining functional in Jammu, the winter capital, for six months.
Mehbooba took the guard of honour in the morning before the offices in the secretariat were opened.
State’s ministers, top bureaucrats and police officials were present during the ceremonial honour.
Besides newly appointed Chief Secretary B B Vyas, principal secretary to CM Rohit Kansal, DGP Dr S P Vaid, IGP Kashmir, SJM Gilani, and other officers were present during the function. (KNS)
