Civilian driver killed, 2 army men injured in Shopian ambush

Shopian, May 04 (KNS): A civilian was killed while two army men were injured after militants ambushed army in Imam Saheb area of Shopian Thursday evening, police said.

A police official in Shopian town said that a civilian driver, identified as Nazir Ahmad Sheikh of Kucdoora village of Shopian, who was driving the cab in which army was returning after search and cordon operation, was killed in the ambush and two army men were injured.
“The driver, critically injured in the militant attack, was rushed to a hospital, but he succumbed,” the official said, adding, that the “injured army soldiers are stable”'

Army Thursday conducted massive search and cordon operation in more than 8 villages in Shopian district after militants intensified their attacks on police and forces in south Kashmir.

Hizb-ul-Mujahideen Thursday claimed the responsibility of the attack on army in South Kashmir’s Shopian District.
In a tete-statement, HM Spokesman Burhan-u-din said that following the crackdown in Shopian by Army, “our militants attacked them In which they suffered damage”. (KNS)
